Would Hezbollah Release Its Prisoners?

The question lies whether Israel would in turn agree for the swap of Arab prisoners. Indirect talks for the release of captured Israeli soldiers between Hezbollah and Israel was initiated by U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan. In an effort to ease the tension he said that he will appoint a mediator. The mediator would operate secretly in working between two sides. According to Israel the immediate release of two abducted Israeli soldiers is important for the cease-fire to last longer. In this statement we could immediately predict that Israel may ignore the presence of U.N. forces once those prisoners were not release in time. The total number of U.N. forces in Lebanon is now up to 3,250 whose primary concern is to secure a buffer zone between Hezbollah and Israel. Our only hope is the reason that in the past Hezbollah and Israel have had prisoner swaps. Meanwhile in a related development about this issue, U.S. civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson met Monday with Hezbollah officials in Lebanon and called on them to show evidence that two captured Israeli soldiers are still alive.

Hope to End the Middle East Crisis

We are all hoping for an end to this Middle East Crisis. But if the the United States, France and other nations at U.N. will not be as united as they were supposed to be, then our hope lies far. Meanwhile the delay of a vote is causing Lebanon and Israel to strengthen their own side meaning that humanitarian situation is getting worse.

BEIRUT (Reuters) - The United States still held out hope of a vote on Friday on a draft U.N. Security Council resolution to end the month-old war between Israel and Hizbollah despite more wrangling over ceasefire terms.

Israeli air strikes killed seven people and wounded one in northern Lebanon on Friday, Lebanese medical sources said. But Israel said plans for a deeper ground assault into its northern neighbor were on hold to give diplomacy a chance.

Lebanon's Rejection of U.N. Cease-Fire

Lebanon's Prime Minister Fuad Saniora rejection of United Nations cease-fire plan would mean more deaths and casualties in Lebanon and Israel. This only complicates the issue of finding a solution to end the Middle East Crisis affecting the whole world.

BEIRUT, Lebanon - Lebanon's government rejected a U.N. cease-fire plan backed by
President Bush on Monday, demanding Israel immediately withdraw even before a peacekeeping force arrives and promising to send 15,000 troops to take control of the Hezbollah stronghold along the border.
